Rain Driving

Since the rainy season is upon us we decided to put up some good tips for driving in the rain. These tips will likely keep you from un-needed auto repair and body work. Driving in the rain in San Gabriel is dangerous because the water makes oil on the road float above the concrete creating a film. This will cause an extremely slick surface for the first couple hours and during this time it can be extremely dangerous to drive in San Gabriel.

Having good condition tires from All Car Specialists can help because the tread will expel water more easily allowing for more traction. If you are traveling into work, allow more time and check before you leave if roads are flooded or shut down. When you are driving try to brake earlier around San Gabriel in order to create a bigger gap between you and the other car. This will also let the driver behind you brake in time.

Another great tip is stay closer to the middle of the roads in San Gabriel to avoid puddles. Water will run off to the sides and this is where the puddles are formed on the streets. If you are driving on the freeway keep your cruise control off because if you start hydroplaning, the car might actually speed up. If you actually see a large puddle in the road ahead of you, do your best to avoid it because the water spraying up into your engine can destroy your electrical system. If you do go through water, lightly touch your brakes to get some of the water off them.

Having good headlights is also a good idea because it lets other cars see you and helps you see the road. All Car Specialists can install new bulbs or do a headlamp service here in San Gabriel. This will polish the plastic allowing more light to come out. If you start to hydroplane let off the gas slowly and steer until you can get traction. Braking or steering can cause you to lose control. Although these are good driving tips, you must also take precautions to make sure your car can handle the rain.

Bring your car to All Car Specialists in San Gabriel to check the tires, brakes, and defrosting system. Most importantly is your windshield wipers which allow you to see out of your windshield. Old and cracked windshield wipers will just push water around. We carry the best windshield wipers at All Car Specialists to make sure you can see clearly. Lastly carry a good emergency kit with tools to help you if you get stuck. AAA has a good one for sale and we recommend you have it in your car at all times. When in doubt, bring your car to All Car Specialists in San Gabriel and let us check it out for you. Your safety and vehicle is our number one concern.
